What is Radon?
Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs when uranium in rocks breaks down in the soil. It also can be found in water. Radon escapes from the ground into the air, where it continues to produce radioactive particles. It is completely invisible to humans and is unable to be detected with any of our senses. It enters into homes through cracks and gaps in the foundation, walls, and floors.
Why Should I Care?
Long-term exposure to high radon levels is linked to a variety of health risks. It is the biggest cause of lung cancer after smoking. It is estimated that radon causes over 21,000 lung cancer-related deaths in the United States each year. Testing is the only way to know your home has elevated radon levels. The good news is that it is simple and affordable.
